The whole empathy thing makes me so angry. My entire life has been built around the idea that the strong protect the weak, that the weak are also doing something important, like a sorcerer at work conducting a massive AoE spell and the warrior has to buy him time. And Musk says no, the tank alone wins it.
What an idiot. "Empathy" is a weakness in that if you don't have it, you will collapse. And now we're watching the fall of the American Republic. But what will come out of it? An empire of Aurelius, or something like Caligula?
Shawn, yeah, the whole “tank alone wins it” mindset is such a dumb misunderstanding of power. Even The Art of War, which so many people treat like some macho strategy guide, is actually about avoiding war whenever possible. Musk and his type act like empathy is a weakness, but that’s what actually holds things together. Real power isn’t about winning, but about keeping people standing, to hold people up, make sure no one gets left behind. And Aurelius or Caligula? I mean, we always hope it’s Aurelius, but I guess history suggests we get Caligula more often than not.
